CBT
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy to help individuals understand and manage a range of depression and anxiety disorders more effectively. Although we may spend time exploring early experiences to understand what may have contributed to how you are feeling now, CBT is a more present focused therapy, identifying maintenance cycles that individuals may have become trapped in. CBT introduces practical strategies to help manage thoughts and behaviours more effectively, so you feel more balanced and able to cope with the challenges that life brings. It is structured and collaborative allowing us to work through your difficulties together in a way that feels focused and in line with your needs.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) was developed originally to help individuals who have experienced trauma. However it is now used for many disorders and difficulties individuals are experiencing, helping them process disturbing negative images, emotions, physical sensations and beliefs so they can move forward from past difficult experiences that have been continuing to affect their mental health.
It is a structured form of psychotherapy which involves bi-lateral movements (often side to side eye movements but also in other ways) in order to process difficult experiences so they become more adaptive, and traumatic experiences are recognised more as a memory from the past and not something to be fearful of in the present. The associated distress is reduced to a point so that it is not impacting day to day lives negatively and clients feel more able to manage their mental health in a balanced way. EMDR is a way of giving a helping hand to the natural healing process after any kind of traumatic experience.
